Why Digibee?

Josh was, in a way, recruited. He was already in the process of exploring new opportunities; but in particular, he was looking to shift to a remote position in a different industry. A member of Digibee’s Creative Operations team who had admired his work, reached out to tell him about an exciting remote role as Digital Media Producer at Digibee. In college, studying organizational leadership in Australia, Josh’s core friend group included many Brazilians, and he absolutely loved their kindness, affection, culture, and the community they created. Besides the role being the right fit for his skill set, and the excitement of joining the tech industry, Josh was also thrilled that the company had Brazilian roots. Now, seven months later, Josh loves being a member of the Digibee team.

Life at Digibee

It’s common in a startup culture to wear many hats, explore different areas, and learn to be a flexible member of the team. That culture affords people a lot of growth and adaptability. Josh enjoys that the work is always challenging and evolving. He appreciates that he is building his skills through different learning experiences, especially the opportunity to explore the podcast world when he launched Digibee’s Podcast: Integration. Redesigned.

The challenge is that growing businesses also need to be strategic with resources. A former Marine, Josh is equipped not only with a team mentality, but with diligence, resilience, problem-solving, and seeing a task through to completion. Josh strives for excellent work, and he has found the value of being resourceful has made him infinitely more creative.

Although Josh wanted to work remotely, he was concerned about the limits of building relationships over video. He’s been pleasantly surprised how adeptly his team has connected; stating the collaboration has been amazing. He feels he contributes by striving to be a good teammate, thinking outside the box, asking the right questions to understand what the team needs, and taking action on what he can help with. In addition to his education in leadership, he also feels his past experiences, both in the military and in school, being immersed in an international environment with people from all over the world, gave him the tools needed to connect more globally with other cultures on their level.

The Future Ahead

Throughout his career, Josh has worked for a few different industries and finds it exciting to delve into each new entity. Through recording, listening, and editing the podcast, he has gained valuable insights. “The integration space is completely new and fresh to me. It’s great being able to see my own knowledge of the tech industry grow, while also seeing the massive role video plays in translating ideas, sharing topics, and teaching others.”

“The integration space is completely new and fresh to me. It’s great being able to see my own knowledge of the tech industry grow, while also seeing the massive role video plays in translating ideas, sharing topics, and teaching others.”

The video landscape is immense and Digibee has just begun to scratch the surface. Josh is focused on putting Digibee on the digital map and seeing our brand be the “place to come” for innovative, engaging, and educational integration content. He’s looking forward to his own professional trajectory and education alongside Digibee’s growth in the integration space.

Balancing Work & Life at Digibee

In addition to being a veteran of the Marine Corps and a former youth pastor, in the past year alone, Josh completed his Masters degree, got married, started a new job, got a puppy, and moved from California to Milwaukee. So, when I asked him “outside of work, what are you into?” I expected the probably didn’t have time for much else. How wrong I was! I spent the next 10 minutes with my jaw dropping listening to him talk about his hobbies and interests.

I’ll start with my favorite; Josh is a musician. He plays guitar and a little piano and worked as the leader of the creative department for his contemporary church. Describing it as basically performing a concert every weekend (!), he managed all aspects of the production, from the coordination, to the music, to the photography, and video. (He sings too, but only for his wife and dog, Cruz. So, unfortunately, there’s no big duet in our future.

He also loves outdoor and endurance sports – running, biking, surfing, and swimming. He’s a masochist, I mean, a triathlete, with several competitions under his belt, including a 50 mile run, a 34 mile trail run, six marathons and even an Ironman Triathlon (which was 70.3 miles, or as Josh put it “6 hours of suffering”). Moving to Milwaukee has certainly made training more difficult for him as you can’t train outside year round, but Josh finds a way, with three races planned this year, including a full Ironman, which is a total of 140.6 miles! Josh was truly inspirational talking about it, saying “I just love the challenge. The emotion that comes over you when you cross that finish line, doing something only a small percentage of the world will ever do, it’s incredible.” (While I can absolutely believe that, I will remain part of the large percentage that will never do it.)
